Research Institute of Basic and Applied Research was established in 2002 and is an important part of the Odessa National Maritime University. It combines all the research laboratories of ONMU.

Over the first 10 years of its existence, more than 1000 research and development projects were carried out, a significant part of which was published in the form of monographs, scientific articles and was introduced into production.

Much work was done under contracts with the Ministry of the Navy, shipping companies, ports and shipyards.

Over the years of the existence of the research sector, the range of directions, the number and volumes of scientific research has been constantly expanded.

One of the main directions of research is port engineering.
